Binaural beats, what exactly are they?

Apparently it has been showen through science that there is a large difference in the activity of either side of the brain. If one brain hemisphere is more active than the other hemisphere this can lead to illness.

This is what binaural beats do: they create a uniformity of both sides of the brain. You can do this through transcendental meditation. Binaural beats are two pure sounds that are at slightly different frequencies, that are separated from the left and right ear, but played at the same time. This is an example of how it could work: on one side there is a tone of 110 Hz, and on the other side there is 100 Hz. Since the brain recognizes the difference, which is 10 Hertz, we are then consciously able to sense this frequency.

1-3 Hertz: Delta waves: hypnotic and trance, deep sleep, dreamless.
4-7 Hertz: Theta waves: visualization, dream, meditation.
8-13 Hertz: Alpha waves: relaxed awakened state, calm thinking.
14-30 Hertz: readiness, awake, logical thinking, but also fear and uneasiness.
