Beware of All Weight Loss Pills

If there was a magic pill that would melt the pounds while you could still eat cheeseburgers and be a couch potato, we wouldn’t have a nation of obese adults and children. Everyone would snack away at Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, gulp down biggie size drinks and just pop in a weight loss pill at the end of the day.

Voila, the next day they would be the same, slim and trim person who could have a hearty eggs and butter pancakes breakfast. However, because we know this is not true, we should also be able to see through all the weight loss pills advertised on TV, in health food stores and at kiosks in lass. Even if XYZ, MD has endorsed it or it is available at a reputable store like GNC, do not opt for a weight loss pill. Here is why.

Health Risks

So many people sued manufacturers when they had extremely adverse side effects after taking weight loss pills with Ephedra. That is just one of the many publicized cases of things that go wrong with weight loss pills. Some times the pounds may drop, but something more important like your stamina or muscle in your body may be lessening too.

As Seen on TV

If you’ve ever bought a cleaning products or any other fancy gizmo from TV, you might be pleased with it, but it never is as effective or as dramatic as they show you on TV. Shrinking dress sizes in just days or losing ten pounds in a week is not just unachievable, it is down right scary.

Latent Side Effects

Some time the chemicals in these weight loss pills may be reacting with your body but you just can not or do not want to recognize them now. You may find you are making more trips to the bathroom, but because you’ve dropped two pant sizes, you don’t want to stop this downward spiral.

Pills for Life

Some pills like Cortislim and others on TV cost around $100 a bottle. They may have initial buy-one-get-one kind of offers (especially if you call within the next ten minutes!) but they may not even be around in business a few months or years down the road. When your supply ends, and you want more, that brand may not be available or at least not at that introductory price. And the moment you leave the weight loss pill, because you didn’t make any lifestyle changes, you’ll be back on the couch having chips and pop. However this time, you may have some unwanted pills in your system too.

When it comes to weight loss there is no stone left unturned if it may help prevent obesity or offer some benefit to those hoping to drop a few pounds, especially for the benefit of their health. One of the newest weapons is hoodia weight loss by using the natural appetite suppressant.

New products seem to emerge almost daily promising to help people lose weight and since everybody’s metabolism is different, finding one product that will work for everyone has been difficult. Even many so-called natural weight loss products have been tried, but hoodia weight loss may be different since it does not claim weight loss promotion, rather it suppresses the appetite.

It is really a very basic concept that when people do not feel hungry, they rarely eat and the hoodia weight loss ingredient is found only in South Africa, growing wild in the Kalahari Desert. An indigenous food eaten by the local tribes with no apparent ill effects, its long-term use however, is still under question by American medical experts.

Plant Lists As Protected Species

The chief ingredient of the hoodia weight loss comes from the hoodia gordonii, which is a protected plant that can only be harvested by individuals and a few select companies granted a license by the South African government. Drug maker Pfizer has been working with a British company to isolate and produce an artificial form of the ingredient but has not been able to show any success.

As a result, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved any hoodia weight loss products, yet there are many companies offering it as a dietary supplement for weight loss. There have been no studies to determine its effectiveness in weight control, but according to many people in South Africa who have used the plant support the notion of its use as an appetite suppressant.

Since the cactus-like plant, from which the key ingredient is drawn, is a protected plant in South Africa it can only be harvested by individuals and selected companies approved by the government, it remains relatively expensive. Typical advertisements for products containing the hoodia weight loss ingredient from the plant will cost over a dollar a day.

Additionally, many products being sold in retail outlets have been tested and proven to not contain the hoodia weight loss ingredients that is claimed. As much as 60 percent of the products have tested to be counterfeit hoodia weight loss products, usually due to the difficulty in obtaining the real thing.
