Pregnancy, rapid growth, and weight gain are the most common causes of the familiar silver scars we know as stretch marks. Perhaps we should see these as badges of honour gained from living a full life, but the fact is that they are widely unpopular, and suggestions as to how to remove stretch marks are generally welcome.

So first, the facts. The majority of us have stretch marks. Some estimate that up to 90% of pregnancies cause them, whilst normal growth, targeted muscle development, and weight gain are all culprits too. On very rare occasions, stretch marks may be a result of a more serious condition, such as Cushing’s syndrome, or prolonged use of certain medicines.

Removing Stretch Marks easier and quicker than you think.

In women, stretch marks most frequently appear on the breasts, thighs and hips, and inevitably, on the stomach during pregnancy. Adolescent boys are more likely to experience scarring on their shoulders and backs.

Stretch marks (or “striae” as they are called by the medical profession) on the surface of the skin are merely the evidence of damage deeper in the tissue. The initial redness of the stretch marks indicates broken vessels in the dermis, and as they heal, so the colour of the scars fades. The texture of the skin may also be changed: smoother, and raised or indented.

As with almost everything in life, the best way to remove stretch marks is… avoid them in the first place! Many of the more homely remedies, such as massage, creams, and exercise, may increase the strength and suppleness of the skin, and render the pursuit of more extreme remedies to remove stretch marks obsolete. Of course, avoiding rapid weight gain is desirable, but not always easy, or even possible.

Getting Rid Of Stretch Marks Marks the easy way.

Considerable investment and research has gone into the search for a cure, with creams containing healing and moisturising elements the most common solution. Recent additions include collagen and tretinoin, which make claims to completely remove stretch marks if they are caught early enough, by healing the damaged dermis.

If all else fails, one can have recourse to surgical treatments. Fresh scarring can be treated by lasers sealing the newly broken blood vessels, or older skin can be removed by laser. Or, most dramatically of all, a “tummy tuck” can remove damaged skin totally.

For those for whom stretch marks are disfiguring or distressing, it is obvious that there are many avenues of hope. Many thousands of dollars have been spent on researching methods of disguising stretch marks and there are many effective remedies in the form of creams and lotions easily obtainable from local stores or on the Web that can fade your stretch marks to the point of invisibility.
